Co-op Ideas

Homeschoolers have a great variety of quality curricula to use, many of which can be easily adapted for teaching in a co-op. Here's a list of homeschool curricula  that work great in a homeschool co-op.

Please be sure that you follow the publisher's guidelines for copying pages from their books.  Some publishers allow copying for your family, but not for a co-op group.  Other publishers will grant special permission for copying if you request it.

The Mystery of History by Linda L. Hobar for grades 5-8 (or 3-12 with modifications). Author Linda Hobar taught this curriculum at my homeschool co-op several times, so it is quite adaptable for a co-op.

Institute for Excellence in Writing for grades 4 and up. This curriculum is very popular with homeschool co-ops because it is easy to use, enjoyable and excellent at teaching writing skills! My own daughters have used it at home and my co-op uses it every year.

IEW even has a yahoo chat group for Co-op teachers using their products. http://groups.yahoo.com/group/IEW_Co_op/

Apologia Science books including Exploring Creation with Astronomy for elementary ages and Biology, Chemistry, Physics, for high school students.

Mapping the World by Heart class for grades 7-12.

A History of Science by Beautiful Feet for grades 5 and up.

Story of the World (Volumes I-IV) by Susan Wise Bauer for grades 1-6.

Great Science Adventures for grades 4 to 6 using the series by Dinah Zike including Discovering the Human Body and Senses, World of Plants, World of Space, etc.

Tapestry of Grace by Marcia Sommerville
